Can’t turn the sound up? Here’s the Transcript!

Hey, friends. It’s Nicole from The Resilient VA. Today we’re going to be talking about how you should be using Loom in your virtual assistant business.

So here’s the deal with Loom: If you’re a virtual assistant, one of the most important things that you can be doing is communicating effectively with your clients. But there is absolutely nothing worse than having the world’s longest email. There are times when we have to communicate big ideas or big concepts to our clients…and one of the best ways to do this effectively without wasting your time or your clients’ is using Loom.

Loom is a Chrome extension. To use it, you just have to open up any website and come up to the top of your screen and click on the Loom logo. When you click on it, you’re going to see that you have the option to record. One of the things that I love about Loom, and the reason that I use it religiously in my business, is because it allows things to be a little personalized. You can see down here in the corner that you can actually see my face. Now, if you’re having a day where you’re not camera ready, which happens a lot for people with chronic illness or lots of things going on in their lives, you can turn this off by clicking here and then people will not see your face. But, you have the option of letting people see your face and having that personal side of things.

It’s so easy to start recording. All you have to do is literally hit “Start Recording”. It’s going to show you this option where you can share your entire screen or just the application window. If you click just the application window, you’re just going to see what’s going on here. You’re not gonna be able to see any other tabs or things that you have open. And we are filming. We’re going live with Loom. It’s so easy to talk your clients through what’s going on so you can avoid long emails.

So let’s watch the video that we just recorded. (Video Clip.) There are lots of different options to share these quick videos. One of the things that I love about Loom, and the reason that I use it a lot, is because you’re able to record videos in the cloud. If you’re anything like me, my hard drive gets clogged up so quickly with large files from Photoshop and videos and podcasts that I’m editing for people. The more I can use cloud-based applications and not have to use that storage, the better.

Using Loom, you’re just able to copy this link and share it wherever you’re communicating with clients. That can be via email. But they also allow you to natively connect your Slack and your Loom account. So if you’re using Slack, which is an amazing tool to communicate with clients, you’re able to literally just hit a button, say what channel you want it to go on, and it’s there. It’s so, so easy.

Another reason I love using Loom is that you have the ability to do tech support with your clients. If your clients are anything like mine, sometimes you run into tech glitches. Whether you’re seeing something different on your end than they’re seeing or they’re just running into errors and you’re not really sure what’s going on. Loom allows you a really quick and easy way to show them what you’re seeing on your end or to just step them through something.

For example, I had a client who I was teaching to do some social media strategy. She wanted to be able to put things in the scheduler on her own. But she’s a really visual learner, so I knew I needed to put together a Loom video to show her exactly step by step what to do. And the great thing is that she can save that link and she can watch it over and over again as she gets comfortable doing that task. It’s so easy and I use it literally all the time.
